Libertarian Philosophy
I can think of nothing I could write that would explain the basics of libertarian philosophy better than this short video. Other languages available at the International Society for Individual Liberty.
One of the best straight-forward definitions of libertarianism I’ve seen comes from Walter Block who wrote that it:
…may be defined as adherence to the non-aggression principle, coupled with private property rights based on homesteading and legitimate – voluntary – title transfer.
To me one of the most interesting things about this philosophy is that it breaks from the supposed “Left vs. Right” paradigm we’ve been encouraged to think of all our lives. Instead, like the bumper sticker below says, it’s ALL of US versus the machinations of the state.
If you’d like to see where you sit on a two-dimensional grid that better represents the actual framework of political philosophy, I encourage you to take two minutes and complete the World’s Smallest Political Quiz.
